Audio Slideshow Synopsis

I am going to create a slideshow about my commute from before I get into the car to when I park my car in the school parking lot, and the places that I pass along the way.

I will capture natural sound from for instance, I have a garage door that opens and closes, and I can use that sound for me preparing to get into my car and of course, the sound of the car starting. I will also use my own voice to describe some of the places and what is going on in the photos. I will add in my own music that I create in Garage Band that will appropriately accompany my story.

I intend to reach out to the people who may want to get to know the areas in Central Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom, since I drive between the two every day, so that is where my story. Also, people who may want to get to know me, personally, a bit better, to get an inside look as to what I see every morning on my way to school.

I must say that since I have specified earlier in my blog that there are two ways that I am able to travel to school, that I am going to focus this slideshow on Route 2.

I want to do this slideshow about my commute, because it ties so well into my theme, and that I can already hear you yawning after you read that this is going to be about a guy in a car, traveling… on Route 2. I intend to make this an engaging presentation, so that at the end of the show, it will not feel as if less time has gone by than two or three minutes.

I am intending to do this project by myself so that I can tell my own story.

Listening to Music...Heard Some Great Lyrics!

While listening to some music in my iTunes Library, I heard some cool lyrics that were about traveling. I think from now on when I hear a great quote/lyric about traveling, that I find interesting or cool, I will post it on my blog! Good idea? I think so! Here is one that I have heard so far:

"So much to do, so much to see; So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go..." 'All Star' by: Smash Mouth

Outrageous American Roadside Attractions

Here is the link:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/45804220/?slide=1

This is a gallery of pictures of different roadside attractions across America. There is a description of the history of each place to the left of the photo.

I found this on CNBC and thought it would be fitting to put onto my commuting blog. The pictures are neat and interesting, and sometime hopefully in my life it would be cool to stop by some of these places!

Carbon Leaf- The War Was In Color Photo and Video Montage

I have watched this video plenty of times in the past. Sometimes to listen to this non-album version of the song "The War Was In Color" by Carbon Leaf.

Nonetheless, I believe this is an interesting and creative way to make a multimedia slideshow, by combining photos and video from American wars with a modern, well written song about war.

Carbon Leaf is a great band and this is a great song! I love this video especially because this version of the song is not the album rendition of the song.

I hear more of the vocals than the interments, where in the album version the instruments are prominent. For the most part the photos and videos match the words of the song, so that we, the viewers are able to see and react to what is happening as the lyrics are being sung.

Great montage! Great Song!

Lack of Color: Photo Montage

I made this picture slideshow in high school, from 2007 to 2008.

I went around my home town and school and took colorful pictures to oppose the theme of the song Lack of Color.

My goal was to show that there is color in the world, unlike the songs message. The song promotes the notion that when life goes downhill that colors escape from all things.

I hope to show that even when times are tough, that the world is still bright and hopeful.

Enjoy!

Burke Podcast

Shaking the sleep out of my eyes and struggling to regain my consciousness I stumble to my feet, as I do most late Saturday mornings, and stagger over to my window. Grass. Dirt. No fresh snow today, looks like it will be another mediocre day at the mountain.

Despite the lack of snow we have received this year we still make the trip to the mountain to ski or ride on what the mountain has to offer out of the love of the sport.

However it is done with a certain lack of enthusiasm that is felt by all who enjoy the snow sports for there is nothing quite like riding that new powder snow that only results from fresh snowfall.
This winter season seems to be especially low on snowfall compared to previous years. “Vermont is two feet under average for snow accumulation this year” Holmes remarks at the beginning of the podcast.

While this may seem like a blessing to those who hate shoveling their driveways and cleaning off their cars, it can spell a death sentence to ski mountains.  Although every mountain has the potential to make man-made snow, it is a difficult and time-consuming process.

Mountains must operate the guns all night long and smooth out the great piles they create, meaning that more staff is required to get the mountain up and running, and in the end it doesn’t compare to the quality of natural snow. Some of the mountain is not even open because of the lack of snow and making snow is simply too big a task.

Another negative side effect of this awkward weather is that warm temperatures during the day melt the snow and colder temperatures at night refreeze this melted water into sheets of ice, which are not fun for anyone.

What this means to skiers and snowboarders is that conditions have not been as good this year as other years and the inner drive to make that trip to the mountain falls from the top of their goals. We spoke with Kyle Gould, a ski instructor at Burke Mountain, about this seasons lack of snow and the effect it has had at burke.

He makes a good point about how people who like to ski in the woods cannot this year for the most part because of the low coverage compared to last years four feet. But the lack of snow is not only affecting which trails are open or how deep the glades are.

The terrain park also suffers. With little fresh snow, the take-offs and landings to the jumps and features become solid sheets of ice making the park dangerous. What may have been fairly easy before has now become far different and could easily result in injury.

For now there is no explanation for our spring-like summer, but some speculations include global warming, a freak occurrence, or maybe it just rained too much during the summer.

New Video Hopefully This Week

I will try to record and post a new video this week...

Apologies for being so slow updating my blog. Honestly, I have just been so busy having many late nights at school that I just wanted to get home at the end of the day.

I will be more active on my blog this week!

Enjoy!

Podcast Idea

Ryan, Bryan, Richie and I are going to make a podcast about Burke Mountain's the lack of snow and how it is effecting skiers, boarders, and even riding lesson instructors. Also, there is a new lift at Burke, and we will look into how riders like or dislike the new lift, and how Burke has changed because of the lift.

Ryan Holmes Interviewed Kyle Gould, who is a ski instructor at Burke Mountain

Enjoy!

Stay tuned!

My Brother, My Brother and Me Blog Review

Sometimes these three can be funny, but for most of the time, I feel, they just ramble on about nothing. When they are funny, they are funny, but when they are not, they are annoying.

The Ricky Gervais Show

The Ricky Gervais Show Example:

is a comedy audio show in the UK starring Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington, later adapted into an animated televised version debuting for HBO and Channel 4 in 2010. The show started in October 2001 on Xfm.

The two British comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant try to get Karl Pilkington famous. Karl is a unique man. He is an idiot as much as he is a genius. Hilarious, just as much as he complains. Gervais and Merchant poke and prod Pilkington with philisophical and practical questions, and experiences and Karl explains what he would do, or how he would act. He explains is interesting past, his present conditions living with his girlfriend, Suzanne. I will tell you what, Pilkington sees the world in such an amazing, unique and boring way. You have to listen to this guy to believe it!
