My Next Commute Video 2 Part 1 Will Be Posted Tonight!

Just a heads up, that my video from my commute on January 30, 2012 to school will be posted tonight!

Since this morning was just too thrilling, I have chopped all of the highlights from my commute to school into one movie, and all of my clips from my commute back home, will be a separate movie.

Depending on how fast Part 1 is posted, Part 2 may be posted tonight, if not than defiantly by this Wednesday night!

While waiting, feel free to check out the rest of my blog, including my first video blog post from January 25, 2012 below!

Enjoy!

Well That Was A Close One, Yeah?

Today's commute was a bit stressful.

It was a close call getting to class on time. As you all noticed, I was the last to arrive to class. Good thing I recorded my commute this morning, to show you all what happened.

At one point I did it to myself, by stopping at a store, but I will edit today's video with minute-by-minute actions and reactions as to what was going on, and ultimately, why I was almost late to class.

If I am ever late to this class, at least I can say I was working on my blog!

P-Lot Podcast Edition 2

This is my second edition of P-Lot Podcast on January 25, 2012

I am in my drive way at home.

P-Lot Podcast Edition 1

Edition One of P-Lot Podcast from January 25, 2012

I am in the Vail Parking Lot at Lyndon State College.

I'm Not Driving Today

Due to weather conditions, I am unable to make the commute today. Currently in Barre there is slush on the roads and the temperature is going to steadily drop below freezing from noon on, so all of the slush will turn to ice.

There is no precipitation at this moment. It looks like there is going to be rain and snow... eeek

If you are out traveling today, drive safe.

Podcast Idea?

I have an idea for a Podcast that would tie into my blog theme of commuting. The name I came up with for it is: "P-Lot Podcast"

I could post audio clips of me in the parking lot, before and after I get in the car.

This sounds like a lame idea to me, and it's my idea, so I will try to think of something else...

Swanton Sunoco Station Robbery

SWANTON, VT - On December 6, 2011, an unidentified man entered Hometown Sunoco located at 166 First Street.

The man robbed the cashier at gunpoint. He is described a white male, 5' 8" - 6' and escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and items.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Vermont State Police are continuing their search. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police in St. Albans at (802) 524-5993 or Franklin County Sheriff's Office at (802) 524-2121

Bear Hunting Investigation

Conrad Masse, 76, of Craftsbury and Wayne Goff, 58, of Wolcott are under investigation after the two men were bear hunting on Urie Road in Albany, Vermont.

The men released two hounds to track the trail of a bear. Masse then drove a vehicle with Goff as a passenger, in an attempt to get in front of the bear, that was being followed by the hounds.

Masse parked the car and eventually the bear crossed the road between the two men. Masse fired three shots. One round stuck a tree, the next hit the bear, and the last hit Goff in his midsection.

Goff wore a red and black checkered jacket. Goff was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

However, Vermont State Police and the Vermont Department of Fish and Game began a joint investigation into this shooting.

Goff has since been released and is in stable condition.

Blog Critique

http://easyhiker.co.uk/

This blog is about a British man who hikes in Germany and France. I like this blog a lot because it is very full. There is a lot of information about his experiences, advice and pictures. The pictures that he has posted are very beautiful, and I like that there are so many to look at, as I scrolled down his blog. Navigation is very simple. Headlines are bold, short and easy to read and tabs to different sections are easy to navigate.
It is unfortunate that I do not see the mans name. At least, I can not find it. Although he seems to stress that hiking is for beginners, and is easy to start, he seems very advanced.

First Video Blog!

I made my first video for my blog! I hope to edit it this weekend! I will tape the rest of the week and compile the best stuff that happened. Already things have been interesting!

Oops... Darned Weather

Well, as weather would have it here in Vermont, the road conditions were too bad for me to attempt to video tape. I took Route 2 anyway. I will attempt to video tape today.

Who I Am And Why I Am Doing This

Who I Am:
My name is Michael Woodward.

I have lived in Vermont my entire life. The first half of my life I grew up in South Ryegate and the second half in Barre, where I currently live. I am going to be 22 years old this March of 2012.

I have an older sister who has already graduated from four years of college. She lives in an apartment with one of her friends. My younger brother lives in a dorm room at his school. I live at home with my parents.

Go ahead and laugh. I get home cooked meals, my own bed, clean shower, my own space, place and peace and can pet my chocolate lab named Molly every night.

If you are a college student reading this, I believe I am making you a bit jealous. Only a sliver. But I know what you are going to come back at me with: “Well, I’m on my way to becoming a full fledged adult by like living on my own and like cooking my own food.”

The real world is not living in a dorm. I am happy for you that you can cook your own meals. At the end of the day, I am getting the same or equivalent education. That puts us all on the same playing field. It is just a matter of what we do with the time that we have, is what makes us get through or not.

Why I Am Doing This:
I go to school at Lyndon State College.

It is exactly one hour away from my house. 50 minutes if I drive fast. For my commute I drive 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours, five days a week.

It dawned on me that driving this much is a waste of time, since I just sing poorly to songs the entire time and contemplate that days happenings and the weeks events to come. I hope through this experiment, I can share with you my experiences, encounters, demonstrate the psychological effects of driving (mood, fatigue, etc…)

Just so you know, I am living my real life outside of the car. What ever happens during the morning and through the day is going to effect how I drive, what I say, and how I act. All you are going to see is what happens before and after my day at school. You see nothing that goes on before or in between when I get in and out of the car.

Whatever happens, I am dealing with real situations that occur on the road, and my emotions are real. I hope over time you are able to draw your own conclusions about what it takes to commute two hours, both ways. You may even have your own opinions and/or experiences about your commute that you take or one that you used to take.

This is where you come in to the picture. Tell me your experiences. Post your photos. Post your videos even. I am curious as to what all of you do in the car when you are by yourself.

What do you do? What do you really do? Literally no one will ever know, unless you share. Well, unless the people who drive by you catch you picking your nose, driving with one foot out of the window or shoving your face with Wendy’s will gather some sort of opinion about you, but other than that, no one is in the car with you.

What do you do when you are in a high-risk environment, supposedly trying to concentrate on it, when you are alone?

Travel well!

Ideas for this blog

1) Multimedia diary of mine and potentially other peoples commutes over the course of the semester
     - The seemingly mundane task of driving, what do people do during their commute, especially when he or she is driving alone.
     -  What goes through my/their mind? Good or bad mood, tiredness how does it effect driving
     - How to stay awake on the road
     -  Tips on how to stay fuel efficient, no matter what car you own (RPM's and speed corrilation)
     - Winter vs. Summer/Spring driving
